AdBlue
AdBlue is a highly purified colourless liquid containing demineralized water and urea (32.5%). The main active component of AdBlue is ammonia which is chemically formed by hydrolysing automotive urea. AdBlue is used with diesel engines using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to reduce harmful emissions of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). AdBlue is injected into the catalyst of the SCR system, where it triggers a chemical reaction with the ammonia. This chemical reaction converts the toxic nitrogen oxides (NOx) into nitrogen and water vapour which are both harmless to the environment.
